Few travelers are drawn to Coimbra, mainly known as the city of the students: in fact, it has the oldest university, which in 2016 celebrates 726 years of existence. For many visitors to Portugal, it’s a day trip destination, but the city deserves more of your time.
Located on the picturesque banks of the Mondego River, Coimbra has so much more to offer. Recently, the location of Arco do Almedina, between the medieval old town and the newer downtown is seeing a new life. My old time favorite spot is getting trendy!
